There has been lockdown all over the world spanning a long period of time because of the coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19. There is a rising threat of socioeconomic and food crises. This makes survival precarious, as living standards decline to a minimum. Even lawlessness is rising and the situation’s fast becoming a replica of the jungle lifestyle where the weak are consumed by the strong. Bringing to mind the infamous cliché; “survival of the fittest”.

The pandemic has already ushered in a recession tagged by the international monitory funds -IMF- as worse than the great depression of about a century ago. In fact, Africa may go into a deep dish of recession as a result if the COVID-19 virus that is now in about 52 African countries. A situation that has not occurred in 25 years.

The spread of the virus is not relenting in the African community yet. Experts fear that Africa may not have the capacity to combat the COVID-19 virus if it spreads with such wildness with which it ravaged highly developed countries like Italy, Spain, the UK, the US, and many other countries in the developed part of the globe.

This poses a threat to all.  There have been reports that young men whose upkeep are dependent on their daily earning have taken to the street to rob, harass, and even rape ladies in Lagos Nigeria and its environs.  The situation is fast becoming one that depicts an actual jungle. It is therefore important to take note of some of the following safety precautions as you survive through this historic pandemic and global pandemonium.

1. Keep abreast of the news and make sure to be in the know of all that’s happening around you.

2. Practice social distancing as counseled by the entire global health experts.

3. Practice good hygiene and keep your environment neat.

4. Make sure you walk in a group if you have to go out to get foodstuff.  If you have no reason to go out,  please stay indoors.  If you must go out, go out in a group of twos or three. Avoid any conversation with a stranger.

5. Ensure to be security conscious.  Make sure your burglaries still have their firm grips to the wall.  If your house have a gate,  ensure To lock it properly at night before going to bed.

6. Exercise to keep healthy. The COVID-19 pandemic is a phase, it will come and go. you want to be in the best frame of mind to tackle the tough times that will be following this pandemic. remember, the recession is almost certain.

7. Kindly make sure you keep any valuable item e.g phone, money, etc at home when you feel like taking a walk around your neighborhood to avoid being robbed. Ensure to maintain a healthy distance from all.

8. For store owners, who must necessarily keep open to serve food to those who are unable to stock up, it is advisable to open if your house is close to your store and also make sure you close as early as possible to ensure safety.

9. Ladies are advised to stay indoors when it is getting late.

10. The times are hard, sleeping is now dangerous. If you sleep, don’t sleep too deep. Make sure to be at alert even at night.

Doing these few things might not guarantee 100% safety but it will help in reducing the risk of you being affected negatively. Because at this point we are not just trying to be safe from the virus but also form hoodlums in the African geographical space

Security personnel might not fully come to our aid when we really need them. The more reason why we as individuals should take up these measures and ensure the safety of our lives, property, and Loved once.
